MDT

“Collective brainstorming with the singular purpose of doing the best for each patient is the cornerstone of the practice of oncology”

A multidisciplinary team meeting (MDT) is a group of healthcare professionals with expertise in each specialisation, who sit together and discuss each individual patient’s care. The MDT is responsible for working up the patient to arrive at a cancer diagnosis, staging the disease to understand the extent of the disease and recommending a treatment plan. Each individual patient is presented with an individualised treatment care pathway after a thorough discussion at the meeting between the Clinicians supported by the allied departments. These decisions are based on available international recommendations and guidelines.

Breast cancer MDT consists of Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon, Consultant Medical Oncologist, Consultant Radiation Oncologist, Consultant Radiologist, Consultant Pathologist, Molecular Oncologist, Physiotherapist, Nutritionist, Psychologist, Nurse practitioner, etc.
